The Sony auto calibration will usually nail the distances and the level settings for the LCR and surrounds. The EQ not so much. I almost always have to adjust either the level setting on the subwoofer or the eq tone control on the bass or both. Many of these also have another subwoofer setting found: 1 Press AMP MENU.

The Denon room correction was very slow to respond to commands when setting up and then the end result sounded worse than the Sony set up manually. 4K@60Hz is enough for me. I don't plan on using neither 8K, nor 120Hz anytime soon.Get a sound bar (just kidding) Do the 1080, 790 is good, but not as good. Reference Klipsch are good speakers, just get large ones for better sound. I like my surrounds to be large too for balance, and Atmos too. If the woofers are too small you just don't get as good of a sound. 8 inches is better than 6, 6 is better than 5, 5 is better than 4.

Jul 17, 2022 · I have an Apple 4K TV (2nd gen). I have a Sony STR-DH790 receiver and a Sony XBR-85X81CH TV. I have 8K capable HDMI w/ ethernet cables rated for 48Gbps. When I do direct connect from the Apple TV to the TV, I can get Dolby Vision at 4K 60hz. When I run the Apple TV passthru through the receiver to the TV, the best video I can get is 4K SDR 60hz.

I've tested this with about a dozen Atmos movies, varying formats, and sampls from HD Trailers, but nothing kicks out that overhead sound on the 5.1.2 format. edit to add the Auto Calibrate works if I set either 5.1.2 or 7.1 patterns and calibrate, and sound does produce from those top ceiling speakers during that process.
